Chris's hair makes a break for it: thanks to Steph for the photo by Steph One thing is for sure, Chris is surely loved in Houston. I have been waiting a long long time to see him in Houston since I missed the last time he played in Oct 2005, which was also at the Buzzfest. I was busy trying to handle Hurricane Katrina aftermath with my mom at the time and didn't get to see Audioslave when they came to town. So all of Houston has been waiting all of that time. Word to Chris, please come and play an entire headliner show. Houston loves you and would love to see that! The Buzzfest itself was really great. The last time I went to a Buzzfest was in 1998, if I remember correctly, and the Foo Fighters were headlining. The energy that Chris and the guys put out was so positive and happy and fun. The crowd was into them so much....the band was incredibly close. Corey kept coming up to me and hand-slapping me, he was so high-energy that night and was really connecting with the crowd. Chris was also doing a lot of hand-slapping too. When they did Hunger Strike, the crowd was just awed. Everyone was talking about it the next day, on the Buzz radio station, on their blogs, everywhere. Apparently, Houston has a love for that song, and for Chris in general. I feel pretty proud to be a Houstonian now!
Thanks to steph for the photo By christina The show was great and Chris' voice was awesome. He hit every high note on slaves and bulldozers and it was really cool. I also thought it was cool they threw in Let Me Drown because it was a nice departure from the songs that he plays on a regular basis. I almost got to meet him in the autograph line but that got all screwed up and didn't work out like I had hoped, but maybe next time. By festivalfan Buzz Fest always has some surprises. This one was Chris Cornell. I was not too sold on his new solo album and wasn't expecting much. He was simply FANTASTIC. I was amazed. Concert performances don't come any better than the show he put on.
Thanks to steph for the photo
Guitarist Carl Bell from the band Fuel wrote the following on the band's MySpace blog: Just played a festival in Houston with Chris Cornell and he and the band were amazing. I sat out front the entire show and was blown away. Chris didn't shy away from any notes and was spot on. I was watching the band and thinking how good they were, and later at a party backstage, ran into the guitar player. It was Yogi, from old Buckcherry days. We reminisced about past touring days and was great to see him. He was great as always. Chris Rice from Houston radio station The Buzz wrote this on the radio station's site: Wow, what a great day for a Buzzfest.... couldn't have asked for better weather. Working the show, I was pretty busy running around all day and didn't get to see many of the bands (though Fuel and Alterbridge sounded really good from a distance), but I DID make it a point to see Chris Cornell's set... good call on my part! He was phenomenal. He kicked off his set with Soundgarden's "Let Me Drown"... great choice, one of my faves off the Superunknown cd... and followed that with "Outshined," another outstanding pick and one that really let him show off that his vocal range is as strong as ever. He also did a number of Audioslave songs, including a fantastic acoustic version of "Like a Stone" and a half-acoustic "Doesn't Remind Me". A couple of other highlights were "Hunger Strike" and the finale of "Slaves and Bulldozers" that turned into a medley with Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." And probably the coolest thing was how into it he was... you could tell he really dug the crowd response he got and it showed in his performance... kudos to Houston!
Hunger Strike - thanks steph Like A Stone - thanks Steph
