Velvet Revolver were due to close out 2007's Quart Festival - but they dropped out instead, leaving Chris and his band to cover the top spot for absentee headliners for the second time on this tour. A rain-soaked day didn't dampen the spirits of the Odderøya crowd, who were won over by an energetic set from the band.

Christ Cornell

Vocally there is no other God than Chris Cornell these days.

Yesterday he was in top shape and knocked out the weathergod. The rain kept pouring on the first day of the Quart festival. But Cornell came on and allready from the first song he showed that he was the man, and he run this show.

Chris performed a best of Soundgarden set along with his solo stuff, with a couple of Audioslave hits. Chris' vocals may never been as good as they were yesterday. By using his vocal cords to pet with the microphone to make it purr like a cat to the wildest screaming! The power in his voice is one of a kind, and there was no-one who missed Scott Weiland and Velvet Revolver- who had to cancel- making Chris the headliner. "Show Me How To Live" ended up less rocking cause Tom Morello wasn't there to play his riffs. But it does not matter when Cornell has hired in two young guitarists who make the riff sound like their own.

The most fun part of the show is when Chris fires up the old Soundgarden classics: "Fell On Black Days", "Spoonman", "Black Hole Sun", and even "Rusty Cage" which Johnny Cash did a cover of before he passed. He played some of the past and the present. Or as Cornell said during the show: "This song is a little over halfway through my new album, and it's the soundtrack to a movie, this is You Know My Name!"

With his background in Soundgarden and Audioslave and the fact that he is the greatest voice in rock history- he could still warm the wettest and coldest Quart audience ever!!

Classic rock with a great voice

Chris Cornell live av Idrettplassen 22:30 Crowd: 5000+

He's been here before with Audioslave. As a solo artist with backing band he gets a lot more use of his voice.

That's good. It worked very well through the middle of his set when he came out and did a couple of songs alone with his acoustic guitar. The voice of Chris Cornell from Seattle is strong enough to break through any rainstorm here on Odderøya.

Cornell is clearly a better singer then songwriter. But when he is done with all the more unknown songs and half-boring stuff he sits left with hits from Audioslave and Soundgarden that really rock and gets the audience going.

He also played some of his new solo album "Carry On". The audience followed Chris on all notes, and Chris got the response he deserved whether he sang "Outshined" or "Be Yourself".

With two guitarists, one drummer and a bassist in the band, this turned out to be a lovely round of classic rock. Some heavy and hard, some pop-oriented material and something right in the middle. Chris adds tremendous power and strength to mid-popular songs. The vocalist is even better live than on his records. Or that was what it sounded like while the dark night settled on Idrettsplassen. This turned out to be an incredible night with one of rock's greatest voices!
