Much like Weiland, Cornell is one of his generation's most iconic and natural frontmen, with a stirring wail he once put to good use in Audioslave and Soundgarden. His band on Saturday was ready to match those vocals, delivering big riffs and beats as stage fog evaporated in the fading daylight, though Cornell was at his best when standing alone to sing "Like a Stone," from Audioslave's 2002 self-titled debut album. - Steve Appleford, L.A. Soundgarden/Audioslave singer Chris Cornell probably had the best pure voice of anyone on the bill, but he seemed content to squander it on by-the-numbers Led Zeppelin-like squalls. When he reached back to 1990 for Temple of the Dog's "Say Hello to Heaven," a tribute to the late Seattle grunge pioneer Andrew Wood, Cornell's vocals dazzled. The Audioslave ballad "Like a Stone" was equally impressive, but then it was right back to squall one with "Cochise," and the moment was lost. - Sam Gnerre, L.A.com

Far more serious, full of brood and howl and with his voice as powerful as ever, Chris Cornell channeled Led Zeppelin hammering, including a reworked "Spoonman" from his time with Soundgarden. - Darryl Morden, Hollywood Reporter

Chris Cornell, meanwhile, can't help but be steeped in the past. Clearly charged by the massive crowd's attention, his remarkable voice more potent than it was only a month ago at Pacific Amphitheatre, Cornell offered only the debut single (the driving "No Such Thing") from his recent solo album ("Carry On"), focusing instead on some of the monster Soundgarden and Audioslave tracks he's associated with – "Spoonman," "Outshined," "Cochise," an acoustic "Like a Stone." (Curiously missing: "Black Hole Sun" or "Fell on Black Days.") - Ben Wener, OC Register
