by Lois R. "His voice is in heavenly form. Oh, those notes! The band is amazing! These guys are very talented and they really bond with Chris already. The chemistry is there, that's for sure. If I didn't know better, I'd think they'd been playing together for years....he told us at the meet & greet that he wasn't going to end with Jesus Chris Pose, but that since the main event was the country act Big & Rich, he thought "what would piss off the cowboys in the audience more than that?"
Photo by Lois Razonski (used by permission) At the meet & greet, he was relaxed, funny, laughing, smiling a lot. We literally had this group conversation where he listened to what people had to say and answered questions. Spoiler...they're going to play SG songs that SG never even played. We're like, "What ones?" and the first thing he said was Zero Chance. He said that he doesn't want to do another tour where all the songs are the same and that instead of some people getting to say, "we got such-and-such a song at our show" everyone will get something special because it'll change up from night to night." (thanks Lois)

I also thought of how very cool it was to be at the very last Audioslave show ever and the first CC show. I'll also be at Coachella, so I get to see it all come around full circle. It's funny...afterwards we were all talking with CC and asking about songs he may play, when we mentioned Follow My Way he said that he hadn't thought of it, but that he loved that song. Can you imagine having so many awesome songs that you forget some of them and then are pleasantly reminded by the fans that they would love to hear them? I 'bout had a fucking heart attack when he said Zero Chance!!! Holy Shit!!! AND, he played it last night in MN!!! My gods...... I wonder if he'd do Tighter and Tighter?" (thanks Laurieann)

Backed by a complete band – two guitarists, a bassist and drummer, Cornell took the stage to a barrage of cheers. He opened the show with Soundgarden staple Spoonman. He then went into Hungerstrike, one of the hit singles from the 1990 release Temple Of The Dog a tribute to fellow rocker and friend Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. Next he treated the crowd to No Such Thing a new track off of his upcoming release Carry On due in stores in June. Solid thus far, Cornell launched into Like A Stone, an Audioslave tune from their self-titled 2002 release. He followed with a second Audioslave tune “Doesn’t Remind Me” from the 2005 release Out Of Exile. He then launched into his own slow bluesy rendition of Michael Jackson’s hit Billie Jean. “Black Hole Sun” followed, ramping the crowd up again. To close the set, Cornell announced that they were going to play a song that had not been played in a long time. The guitarists then launched into Jesus Christ Pose. The audience reaction was a mixture of excitement and awe." How about former front man of the 90’s group Soundgarden and hard rockers Audioslave’s lead singer Chris Cornell? Cornell instantly took over the crowd onward to a solid rocking performance. Even country superstars Big and Rich found their way into the hearts of those in attendance. I for one am not a country fan but they went out and put on one heck of a show. The crowd absolutely loved both acts and it truly was the right way to start off a Champ Car weekend, no question. Reprinted with permission from PaddockTalk April 2007
