Chris was the penultimate act at Al Gore's Live Earth concert in Hamburg, part of a global network of televised live shows all over the world to raise consciousness about global warming. He played a powerful 4-song set at the HSH Nordbank Arena, joining other artists from all genres of music including Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Keith Urban, Enrique Iglesias and Yusuf Islam. Highlights of the set included an acoustic version of Audioslave's Wide Awake and an intense and passionate rendition of Black Hole Sun to close out the set. Sadly, there was a behind-the-scenes mix-up which prevented the promised meet-and-greet from happening, but those who won passes were compensated with a new meet-and-greet at Chris's next German date in August, plus a signed copy of the album.

extracts from Live Earth Hamburg reviews Highlights: Chris Cornell playing an acoustic version of Right Away [um, I think they mean Wide Awake - webmaster] for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; Yusuf Islam, who was added to the lineup at the very last minute, singing Wild World accompanied by a large band that included a horn section. Chris Cornell doing Black Hole Sun in Hamburg was memorable, has me further intrigued about his coming shows (I’ll likely only see the Pacific date, Aug. 5, and miss the July 10 stop at the Wiltern.) Did anybody see him play more than that, though?
