by DJ Retro Maxx I can't believe it's over! It was just so fantastic. I knew from hearing lots of bootlegs and seeing lots of live videos that Chris Cornell was great live, but to actually see it was even better than I expected. My friend and I arrived at the venue a few hours early, but there was no one lined up yet, so we got something to eat nearby. Then, we came back out an hung around until a couple came along and lined up. We lined up behind them and had to wait there for about an hour before we were let in. When we got into the Commodore, we ran to get a spot front and centre. I'm short, so if I'm not in the front I really can't see at all. The opening band was Matt Mays and El Torpedo, a band from Halifax. They weren't bad. There was a lady behind me who was reeeally into them. She pushed the girl beside me so hard in order to get a spot in the front, that the girl bled from rubbing against the barrier. Chris came on a little before 10:30 I believe. We could see the setlists taped to the stage, so we knew Let Me Drown was first, which was awesome. As I expected, we couldn't hear the vocals that well from the front, but I was still really happy that I was right up there. As it always seems to be when I see celebrities, Chris was smaller than I imagined. He's tall of course, but up close he seemed thinner that I thought. He is even more beautiful in person though. The highlight for me was Doesn't Remind Me. It started with Chris playing acoustic and then the full band joined. It was so powerful that way. Then, during Spoonman and JCP, the last 2 songs before the encore, the crowd went even more wild. Some of the girls around me had the security guards lift them out because they were getting too squished, but I made it through. Today the front of my body is all bruised from being pushed into the barrier, but it was worth it. All in all, the band made a great connection with the crowd. I could tell the band was having a great time on stage and that the crowd was really feeling it. I know that definitely the core group around me were really big fans who were totally captivated by the show, as I was.
According to the press release for this promotion, "the concert will be shot in high definition and posted on a Molson Canadian Rocks Revealed microsite in partnership with Sympatico/MSN so that live music fans from across the country can see the show streamed online".
