15 April 2008 Sadly, Chris has made the decision to postpone his entire European tour due to continuing recording commitments, though he promises he'll be back to make the dates up later in the year. The new album should be out around September. Here's the official news : CHRIS CORNELL POSTPONES EUROPEAN TOUR UNTIL FALL 2008 THIRD SOLO ALBUM PRODUCED BY TIMBALAND DUE OUT IN SEPTEMBER ON MOSLEY MUSIC / INTERSCOPE RECORDS Los Angeles, CA – Pioneering rock singer/songwriter Chris Cornell has postponed his upcoming European Tour, originally slated to begin in Holland on May 31st, until the Fall. The acclaimed, multi-platinum former lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave is holed up in the studio with super producer Timbaland, continuing work on his third solo CD, tentatively slated for a September 2008 release on Interscope Records. Having already laid down 14 tracks for the forthcoming disc, Timbaland has called his collaboration with Cornell “his best work ever.” “Due to an extended recording schedule, I will be able to perform in front of my European fans a few months later than expected. With that said, I plan on touring extensively through Europe and the rest of the world through 2008-2009,” said Cornell. ...and here's a special audio message Chris wanted to share with fans.
10 April 2008 In a telephone press conference yesterday with other bands from the forthcoming Projekt Revolution tour, Chris said that he would "try to work in ... probably two or three new songs" to his set. He also said he's hoping to have a new single out by the time the tour starts, but that at this point is not sure what that will be. He confirmed that the new Timbaland-produced album "would not be ready for release during the summer" but that he hoped Timbaland might be persuaded to be a "surprise guest" onstage at some point during the tour. Meanwhile, there will be a Projekt Revolution date in the UK on 29 June at Milton Keynes Bowl, but Chris won't be part of the lineup as he'll be touring in Scandinavia. Read this report in Billboard for more details.
9 April 2008 Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and his Trio have included a cover of Soundgarden song Black Hole Sun on their new double album, Live, out now on Nonesuch. Recorded at the Village Vanguard in NYC over four evenings from October 11 to October 15, 2006, it also includes a jazz version of Oasis's Wonderwall as well as a range of jazz originals and classics. According to one Amazon reviewer, this 23 minute plus jam on Black Hole Sun "takes the trio into some exciting places it has never gone before". Mehldau has covered Radiohead and Beatles songs on previous albums. Read a review of the album here, and listen to an excerpt at Brad Mehldau's website.
